As a County or a Country we can only do what our resources permit. Government, at any level, cannot and should not pay for everything. Yes, it is tough to decide what is the right thing to do with our limited resources. However it is necessary.
Government is inherently inefficient, ineffective, and costly: It does not deliver better decisions for you and your family. You and your family know better what is good for you. There is a role for government, but in many areas it has exceeded its necessary and defined role.
Personal responsibility means to me that people have responsibility to work and provide food for themselves and their families, to provide housing, and to work to provide—not look for handouts. Where this is not possible because of illness or injury then family, neighbors, and the community should help. Not all are equally gifted; all have similar opportunity.
While the nation experiences high levels of unemployment, our area has less. I believe this is because of lowered business taxes which means more businesses coming to Michigan, or those in Michigan expanding. Lower tax rates allow businesses to expand and hire more people. To me, a good job is one that makes you happy and puts food on the table.
